Pre-closing Home Buyer Tasks | MA Home Buyers

Remaining organized will help make the home buying process less complicated. With packing and logistics on your mind, you can forget a few crucial tasks. The pre-closing home buyer tasks in this article lists some things you should not miss.

Notify Creditors of Address Change

To stop mail from getting lost, remember to change your address and begin mail forwarding. Mail forwarding is done through the United States Postal Service either on their website or in-person. It is intended as an interim solution and thus remains in place for a brief timeframe. Inform everyone of the change including lenders, insurance providers, employers, and family.

Change Automobile Insurance

Inform your insurance company of your new address. Your rate may fluctuate as a result. If you are changing states, you must also register any vehicles in the new state and obtain a new license. Many states have reciprocity so you will not need to take a driving test.

Register for School

If you have school-aged kids, contact school administration to learn what documentation you will need to enroll them. You typically must have records from the existing school. You might also need copies of medical records and confirmation of residency. Lastly, the process might need to be done in person.

Contact Utility Services

At least seven days ahead of closing, contact utility providers to terminate existing services and start new ones. Do not forget electricity, oil or gas, cable, and phone services. For usage based services, the providers normally take a meter reading on your end/start date. If you forget to initiate service at the new home, then they will physically shut down the prior service and assess a fee to visit and restart it again. Therefore, it is important to contact them in advance to prevent service disruption and additional fees.

Additional Pre-closing Home Buyer Tasks

These pre-closing home buyer tasks are merely a few key to-dos to take care of prior to completing a property closing. You may have other tasks to address based on your particular situation. For example, if you operate a business, you should register that. For assistance with your real estate search, call Christopher Graves at Sierra Pacific Mortgage Company.

I specialize in mortgage lending in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and my company does have the ability to lend in other states. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst Massachusetts in 2002. I have a Bachelor’s in Science. In addition to managing a team of loan officers my personal loan production is always in the top of the entire of company. I have personally been in the mortgage business for over 13 years. I pride myself with taking my clients from application to close in the smoothest and quickest way possible, while keeping them well informed during the entire process. I originate my own loans from start to finish and work hand in hand with my loan processors & underwriters to make sure I am updated to the minute with all of my files. I stay up to date with lending guidelines and speak with underwriters on a daily basis to ensure I am aware of all of the lending guidelines in place.
