Types Of Windows For MA Real Estate

Selecting the right windows for a property is very important. Windows determine the design of a MA property. They also operate differently and have different energy efficiency. The following are some general types of windows for MA real estate and useful facts on each type.

Types Of Windows For MA Real Estate

Single and Double Hung Windows

Hung windows are the most popular style found in MA properties. Single-hung windows have only one sash that slides up and down, while double-hung ones allow both sashes to move. Newer versions also enable you to tilt open both sashes inward for cleaning. They are sold with with grids between the panes of glass for a more formal appearance. As a downside, they usually have higher air leakage rates.

Single and Double Sliding Windows

Single and double sliding windows are similar to the hung type, with the only difference being that they slide left and right rather than up and down. Given this, sliding windows tend to be wider then hung windows.

Hinged Panes

Several window options offer hinged sections. They all offer the advantage of lower air leakage rates over sliding types given the sash shuts securely by pressing against the frame. Casement and awning windows are hinged on one side. Awning windows are hinged at the top and casements are hinged on the right or left. Both open out and provide good ventilation. They normally function using a cranking system and are thus ideal for difficult to access areas. Hopper style windows glide inward and have a hinge at the bottom. Hoppers are often landscape oriented and provide a more casual design. Thus, they are most popular in basements and bathrooms.

Fixed Windows

Fixed windows do not have any moving parts. If placed correctly, they allow hardly any air to escape. Because they do not allow any ventilation, they may offer limited functionality. windows are typically used for large openings and in conjunction with other types that do ventilate.

Comparing Windows Styles

Before selecting a style of window, consider the layout of the room, air flow, insulation, and design elements of each type of window. Certain spaces may warrant varying types. A combination of styles might also enhance the design of a room.
